Joseph J Armato believes it is important to get involved with your local community; however, he recognizes that it can be difficult to initially get involved. Joseph J Armato offers insight on how to get involved with a charity in your local community.

  • Establish what type of organization you want to work with. Joseph J Armato notes that individuals must first identify what type of organization they desire to work with and in what industry. Choose something you are interested in and passionate about to ensure that your time volunteering is meaningful. Individuals can volunteer at large organizations like the American Cancer Society, or local organizations like hospitals or libraries.
  • What role could you play in the organization? Next, Joseph J Armato advises that individuals assess how they could help the company. Do you have special skills like fundraising, graphic design, or even data management? Nonprofits have various roles you can fill, and it is important to utilize your skillset.
  • Make a call. Once you have established what organization you would like to work with and how you could benefit them, call or email your local chapter. Make the contact aware of the ways you could offer assistance and ask if a coordinator could help you get involved.
Attend a meeting. Joseph J Armato states that various nonprofits have volunteer meetings. These meetings will give you a chance to communicate your ideas and meet fellow volunteers. Joseph J Armato believes forming connections with other volunteers will help enrich your experience.
